Two follow-Up Articles from the Wall Street Journal About McClintock's Win in CA-04

Wall Street Journal / CFG Follow-Up Pieces on CA-04

Posted by: Aaron Park | 06/07/2008 12:58 PM

The Wall Street Journal weighed in with an article called "Principle Defeats Pork".

The part I found interesting was the half quote from Kirk Uhler - making Uhler look like a big government Republican and the fact that the article highlighted the devastating impact of the Placer GOP Central Committee endorsement of McClintock.

I know Kirk - his mistake was supporting Ose. However - Kirk is the most Conservative member of local government in Placer County. Of the three $1 tax/fee increases he is assailed for voting yes on two of - no one remembered that there was an $11 reduction in another tax/fee to offset it... I digress...

While John Fund only gave the PCRCC endorsement a single line in the article - the fact that the Central Committee's action caught the attention of a national media publication explains why the State CRP reacted to the endorsement the way they did.

It would also explain why the Ose folks mounted a furious attempt to negate its' affect - Central Committee endorsements are powerful and should be weighed carefully.

The Club for Growth sent out an e-mail citing another Wall Street Journal Article about Don Young of Alaska. Mr. Young is another poster child of the Earmark generation - he along with Ted Stevens was the father of the "Bridge to Nowhere"... an earmark that became a lightning rod to enable big-spending "moderate" Democrats to wrest control of Congress away from Big-Spending Republicans.

I Posted the CFG Article which includes a link to the WSJ article about Young on the Placer CRA Blog.

Since the article is from the Club for Growth - it also highlights the $200,000 they raised for McClintock plus the almost $100k in TV and Radio ads they bought.

Of special note should be the Primary race in New Mexico where the Conservative won by only 2 points - again getting outspent by her Liberal opponent. I think there is a theme here.

News and Notes in Placer County Regarding Fall Elections

There appears to be a group that has formed to overthrow the Rocklin City Council... There are three Rocklin Councilmembers whose seats are up.

There are increasing rumors of a Recall being fomented against the remaining two Members whose seats are not up this year.

It would appear that the leftists and anti-growth Sierra Club types are behind this effort. Primary in their platform is stopping any new development of through roads in Rocklin.

Pauline Rocucci - who registered Republican just before running against Rocky Rockholm for Supervisor in 2006 has decided to run for Roseville City Council.

There is also a former LaMalfa Staffer who has thrown his hat in the ring - John Allard, an incumbent who used to work for Senator / Assemblyman Tim Leslie is running for re-election.

Pauline Rocucci is bad news and needs to be stopped.

Meanwhile - Bruce Kranz is re-grouping to head into the runoff election against extreme liberal Jennifer Montgomery.

What the stunning election results mean for the Northern California GOP

There were two bellweather races in Northern California GOP politics that were decided tuesday.

There was the 4th Congressional District - a race watched nationally and the 3rd Assembly District - a race watched by insiders, whose impact is no less significant.

Dan Logue ran against Sue Horne for the 3rd AD

Tom McClintock ran against Doug Ose for the 4th CD

Both races effectively pitted Doug LaMalfa / Establishment against Rick Keene / Sam Aanestad / Ted Gaines / Conservative activists.

If you looked from afar - you saw Sue Horne and Doug Ose's huge endorsement lists. Establishment types lined up behind both candidates.

As the campaigns kicked off - it became apparent that Both Horne and Doug Ose were attempting to hide behind their endorsement lists. Once both were starting to get outed for the liberals that they are - then the gloves came off.

The only reason why Sue Horne did not spend an estimated $4.5 million assassinating Dan Logue's character was that she didn't have the means to write herself the checks to do so.

Ose did. Even with polling data showing a month out that he was down 30 points - Ose continued to pour money into his race (some $1.5million after the poll was leaked)

Horne, for her part - continued rolling out eatablishment endorsements well into her race and spent what little money she had on unbelievably nasty hit mailers.

Both Horne and Ose's campaigns activated the Conservative base - earning them both Censures from local Republican organizations / Central Committees.

Logue won by 9.5% and McClintock won by 15%

The Logue v Horne race was seen as a proxy fight between Rick Keene and Doug LaMalfa - round one, Rick Keene.

The McClintock v Ose race was seen by observers all across the country as a referendum on the future direction of the Republican Party.

Logue and McClintock's races proved that Principle does indeed win on the battlefield against the establishment.

The NRCC and the nimrods in Washington D.C. will do well to open their eyes and realize that:

Ose had the insiders lining up his endorsement list
Ose spent $4.5 Million - a primary record

McClintock had the activists and a few core Conservatives
McClintock spent $1.1 Million - 1/4 what Ose spent

David truely slew Goliath.

When the chips were down - Dan Logue was on the right side. Rick Keene, Sam Aanestad and Ted Gaines established the standard for Northern California.

The big loser was the establishment.

ICYMI - Sue Horne Melting Down

It started with Horne skipping out on three debates. On one occasion, Doug LaMalfa showed up to debate Dan Logue in place of Horne.

Then Horne launched the now infamous Eminent Domain mailer that earned her a censure from the Butte and Yuba County Central Committees.

Horne vs GOP Central Committees

Horne’s response was to attack those Republican volunteers because in her words -they were Logue lackeys. She completely ignored the fact that they had stayed neutral until her actions compelled their disgust.

This sounds eerily similar to Liberal Millionaire Doug Ose.

Horne’s popularity with the Republican volunteer base even translated into her home County entertaining a censure vote against her. The only reason why Nevada County did not join the Censure parade was that they wanted more information before taking such an action. Apparently, the mail was a day or two behind in Nevada County.

Where’s the Money?

More recently – Horne’s fundraising has almost ground to a halt. She raised a pathetic $14,000 in the filing period compared to Logue with $57,000. For those of you scoring at home – take $1,000 away from Logue and it figures out to 4:1.

Please also note that the latest reports Show that of the $100,000 Horne lent herself in December – 70K was paid back to herself in January… and the final 30K was paid back in this latest report. This is not the behavior of a winning campaign.

Unhinged in Quincy

The pressure of those numbers coupled with an activist revolt must have been weighing on Horne’s mind.

On May 22nd, at the Plumas County RWF Lunch – an appearance she did not cancel, she called Steve Thompson out publicly in front of the audience. Thompson was at the function on behalf of Rick Keene, who Horne also publicly attacked. Not to be left out, Horne also made sure that Sam Aanestad was included in her tirade.

Unhinged in Nevada County

Sue Horne has spent her Memorial Day weekend leaving messages for prominent local Nevada County citizens who are supporting Logue. Apparently, Horne has a need to share her innermost thoughts with those supporting Logue.

The most comical are those she has made to some of Logue’s donors asking them to donate similar amounts as a price of forgiveness…

Logue’s Response is Priceless

The worst problem Logue has had was mistakenly using Kim Janousek’s title as Nevada County RA President in a mailer.

In that Mailer – six different leaders in Nevada County were quoted about Sue Horne’s consistent pattern of caving into the left.

If Horne had only translated that fire that led her to leave people messages into her office as Supervisor, things could be really different in Nevada County. As it is, the folks on that mailer had better be expecting a voicemail soon…

Ose Dumps In Another $600K!

Ose has now written himself checks totaling $2.85 million. $600K was reported late yesterday. So – the Kamikze run continues…

I wonder if he is now sending a message to anyone who will run against him for Lungren’s seat – when Lungren is appointed AG by McCain, or maybe Ose is looking at Herger’s seat. Herger is expected to retire soon as well.

Ose has now attacked McClintock for ten different angles and has done so with a huge bullhorn.

Ose has now outspent McClintock 4 to1 when it is done (4+Million total to $1.1 Million).

Some of the late endorsements for Ose (most based on personality, not principle), the Wilson Ads and the Charlie Brown supporting Veteran’s attacks are going to have an effect.

I still see Tom Winning be 20-23 points. I am going to concede that the last $1Million savaging of McClintock is going to tear the margin down.

I do believe that Ose has crossed the line into obsession and has continued his rampage as a result.

McNally-Temple has run several unsuccessful races against McClintock in the past and they appear obsessed as well. They have let Dean Andal swing in the process.

I will be waiting to see how Ose’s Club responds to McClintock’s convincing win next Tuesday.

I do not think Ose will lift a finger to help McClintock in the fall at all – I will gladly eat my words if Ose donates to Tom and if he helps Tom raise money in the fall… but I’d be delusional if I thought otherwise based on Ose’s behavior.

I am seriously wondering if the news of the enormous polling data had those in Ose’s camp reacting in disbelief.

Suffice to say – Ose should never be allowed to run for office again as a Republican after the reprehensible and vicious slander campaign he has run. Too bad no one listened to Barbara Alby 10 years ago.

Auburn Councilmember Kevin Hanley on Eminent Domain Abuse

This is re-printed in its’ entirety. This column was written by Auburn Councilman Kevin Hanley.

Curb Eminent Domain Power

Why do public opinion polls consistently show that citizens revere our Founding Fathers but deeply distrust modern-day politicians? The answer is simple. The Founding Fathers risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to break free from the shackles of the British aristocracy to create a new form of republican government with limited powers. They knew from their in-depth study of human nature and history that inevitably, as Lord Acton said, “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In contrast, too many of our modern-day politicians have arrogated each year, through new laws and regulations, more power from hard-working citizens so that they can do favors for powerful financial and political interest groups, gain campaign contributions in return and thereby rise in elected office. This is the new aristocracy. By putting the insatiable pursuit of money and power ahead of justice and community values, too many of our modern-day politicians have forfeited the public trust.

5th Sup District Update - Fresh off of Endorsing Ose, Auburn Journal says no Kranz

News flash – Even though Kranz missed the memo about Ose being a liberal before he endorsed – the Auburn Journal did not (they just Endorsed Ose). They penned an article (which Jeff posted in the roundup) saying ABK. Anyone but Kranz… This makes me want to mortgage my Condo to give Bruce a big fat check. (Of course, the AJ might label me a developer as a result…)

The Auburn Journal penned a nice thesis for the ABK caucus LINKED HERE again for your convenience.

I start with their opening three paragraphs -

Voters deserve to hear more about issues like the proposed massive Forest Ranch development in Foresthill, and Royal Gorge near Donner Summit, and how fire protection, transportation, wastewater treatment, drinking water and other issues might be handled before electing a supervisor June 3.

And there is a way to ensure the race is not decided until November – not giving any one candidate more than 50 percent of the vote.

Placer County’s sprawling 5th District takes in the western portion of Lake Tahoe, a jewel that must be preserved. Lake Tahoe is the No. 1 tourist destination in the United States. The lake is already experiencing extreme challenges to its clarity. A cooperative plan must be followed to preserve this gem.

I am wondering what the AJ is suggesting here – Kranz will single-handedly pollute Lake Tahoe? They go on to mention (GASP) John Doolittle, belying their bias. However, they also acknowledge that either of Bruce’s opponents are unqualified by endorsing neither of them…

Residents should cast their votes for Houston or Montgomery, and make the election go to a runoff in November. That way we can all become more informed and in November choose the best candidate for the job.

Now, in case you are confused – the AJ’s thesis for saying ABK is we need a debate over the issues… really? The AJ covered a debate the day before advocating kamikaze voting against Bruce Kranz.

Take a look at the AJ article dated 5/24 about a candidate forum. In Fact, the title of the article makes the 5/25 commentary about needing a debate absurd… (as in you just had a debate – maybe it was because Kranz was the only one with anything to say???)

Supe candidates talk job skills, sports, water fears

Now take a closer look at what the candidates cite as their qualifications – it is telling:

Kranz, who has served the past four years as supervisor, noted that his experience in state and county government has been an asset during his term. Kranz is a retired state parks superintendent with 33 years of service. Fifteen years on the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission, which provides direction on city-county annexation issues, gives him a clear indication of the planning process, he added.

Hmmm… where is Doolittle in all that? Sorry – the AJ has to add that fact to the story in order to inflame the Sierra Club into action.

Houston, a Sacramento lobbying firm owner, said that his 40 years of experience in the state Capitol, has led him to develop an understanding of how bureaucrats and politicians think. Over the years, that understanding has helped bring money to many agencies, including Placer County, he said. Houston also mentioned “work ethic” as another attribute, saying that he was raised on a ranch as a kid during the Depression at a time when hard work meant survival.

Houston’s solution – send Placer County into a depression by stopping development. Also, he talks about bringing home the bacon from government – kinda like Ose. Remember his column in the Sierra Sun about using eminent Domain to seize land?

Montgomery said “luck of geography,” in living on the Donner Summit allows her greater opportunity to gain perspective from constituents on both sides of the summit.

“I can get to either side of the 5th District with ease,” Montgomery said.

Hmmm… Why not get back to the Bay Area where your donors are from?

Folks – if Kranz does not get to 50%+1 – his opponent will be Montgomery. Where does that leave the Republicans that are part of the ABK Caucus? Where does that leave the AJ?

Are they going to support an extreme liberal Sierra-Club type like Montgomery? Why not dust off Rex Bloomfield? Oops – Bloomfield is already behind Montgomery…

So there you have it – the Conservative that made a bad endorsement, the Lobbyist and the Sierra Club leader. Makes a real easy choice for this blogger.

Go Kranz, Go.

Shawn Steel (and the CRP?) Takes Sides - Robo Calls Blast Butte GOP Censure of Horne/Ose

Posted below is the text of an email from Steve Thompson, the Chairman of the Butte County Central Committee. Apparently, the SoCal Leadership of the California GOP has an issue with the activist Central Committees. Their other recent action was to castigate the Placer GOP Committee for endorsing Tom McClintock.

Shawn Steel is the Husband of BOE member Michelle Steel. Michelle Steel and Sue Horne both use Johnson-Clark as their consultant. It is no small wonder that Mr. Steel would lend his voice to the robo-calls going out on behalf of another JCA client.

Is there a quid pro-quo? Or, is the CRP run by country – clubbers supporting Sue Horne / Doug Ose? Or did Shawn Steel act on his own acord? – in which case using his title as a CRP officer is a distinct problem. I will leave that to the readers to decide, but the Johnson-Clark connection is irrefutable…

As a side note, a precinct walk for Sue Horne today in Chico drew 0 volunteers

Steve Thompson, Butte GOP Chairman writes…

Republican Friends,

It has come to my attention that there is an individual making automated calls in to the 3rd Assembly District, and that this individual is spreading lies to try and negate the authority of the Butte County Republican Central Committee.

As you all know, on May 15th the Butte County Republican Central Committee officially censured the campaigns of Sue Horne and Doug Ose. Our committee has not endorsed in these races, as that is forbidden in our bylaws, however, our committee has the right and the responsibility to censure campaigns that cross the lines of decency and honesty in a fair political contest. It is our right as a committee, protected by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution and the bylaws of our party, to speak out against unethical, dishonest, and flat out sleazy campaigns. We have done just that!

The individual making these calls is Shawn Steele. Mr. Steele was once a representative of the California Republican Party, now he has relegated himself to the position of mouthpiece for the Sue Horne campaign. Mr. Steele is claiming that county central committees have no authority to censure. Mr. Steele is wrong. While the bylaws of the BCRCC do not allow for endorsements in primaries, there is no provision prohibiting our use of censures against campaigns that have crossed the line. The bylaws for the California Republican Party read the same.

Friends, the BCRCC took a brave stand when we censured liberals Doug Ose and Sue Horne. It is the same stand we took years ago with Skip Daum. We took a stand to let everyone know that we will no longer tolerate negative, sleazy attack ads aimed at fellow Republican Candidates. Ronald Reagan himself believed that campaigns should conduct themselves in a positive, honest manner. We share and will uphold that belief.

Since we took a stand, the Sue Horne campaign has sunk to new lows in their attempts to harass, intimidate, and discredit our organization. I have had my own integrity attacked in public web logs by Jack Lee, and even received a threatening phone call from Erny Spears, both avid supporters of Sue Horne’s. Sue Horne could have apologized and moved on with a clean campaign. Instead she has sunk further into negativity and despair.

In light of this behavior, I am calling on all public officials who have endorsed Sue Horne to drop their endorsements and denounce Horne’s negative campaign. I encourage all connected with Horne to drop their support of her campaign before she drags their reputations down to her level.

Sincerely,

Steve Thompson, Chairman

Butte County Republican Party

Allow me to add that the Glenn County and Yolo County Republican Central Committees Censured Doug Ose in 1998… no one taped phone calls then!

Rob Haswell Endorses Bruce Kranz!

Blogger’s Note – OK, made you look. But when the local Moonbats call Bruce Kranz one of the worst, it makes me get my checkbook out to donate money to that candidate.

Below is an email in it’s entirety begging the tree-huggers, peacenicks and tax-raisers to visit their local UNION OFFICE and make phone calls. I wonder if the union members know that their dues are paying the phone bills for this stuff…

Friends,

Two weeks from today we’ll be deciding the fate of Placer County’s Fifth District, where Jennifer Montgomery is locked in a TIGHT three-way battle with incumbent Bruce Kranz and Bob Houston. Turnout will be LOW, so every SINGLE VOTE MATTERS!

I’m asking if each of you can give us one two-hour shift of phonebanking, either tonight, Wednesday, or Thursday night or next week. We phone from 6-8 p.m. in Auburn and Scott Johnson has been running this operation. Scott can be reached at 530-878-1566.

Tonight and Thursday we phone out of the CWA offices on the corner of Palm and Hwy 49:
Local 9431 Communication Workers of America, 161 Palm Ave , Suite 9 Auburn , California 95603

On Wednesday, we’ll be at: Stationary Local No. 39
2840 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603, 530-823-9374
(This is where the joint haswell/brown phonebank was held in 2006)

WE HAVE A REAL CHANCE to get Jennifer elected and she will make a wonderful supervisor, while at the same time replacing one of the worst in KRANZ. I know I ask much of all of you, but if you can help our cause this election it will go along way toward turning our county around. If you can give us EVEN ONE SHIFT this week, or next, it will be incredibly helpful in our efforts. (Blogger’s note – and KRANZ was even supported by Satan himself, John Doolittle…)

Again, thanks for all you do. Please let me or Scott know your availability.

Ose's Troubles Deepen (Polling Data Released) Down 54-24

TEAM OSE RESPONDS TO POLL NUMBERS

As broken by John Stoos last night – McClintock 54 – Millionaire Liberal Ose 24.

Ose’s Negative number is at 41.

If any of you think I have gone insane – Steak Dinner at Carvers says McClintock Blows Ose out. (Leave a comment on this thread – I have to be able to verify your identity and contact info for the bet to be valid)

Now take a closer look at some more numbers (Wake Up Stenhouse / Brown, you’re on the tracks and there is a McTrain coming…)

OSE RETOOLS CAMPAIGN ADS -

Politiker Blog

Ose has finally decided that fratricidal attacks were giving the appearance that he was trying to help Charlie Brown and the constant hammering on his terrible immigration record have caused him to retool again… click the link to see the detail:

Excerpt: Stan Devereux, a spokesman for the McClintock campaign, said Ose’s new ad was done with the intent of answering McClintock’s charge that Ose supported amnesty for illegal immigrants. Devereux pointed out that the McClintock campaign was releasing a new mailer targeting Ose on the subject of immigration. (Click here to see the mailer.)

“He feels compelled to answer the charge,” said Devereux.

WOW!

Fundraising – Pay Attention to this, because this may be more important than the poll numbers:

McClintock
Raised 4/1/08-5/14/08: $690,021
Raised overall: $1,005,999

Ose
Raised 4/1/08-5/14/08: $231,857 (McClintock outraised Ose 3:1)
Raised overall: $455,947

Brown
Raised 4/1/08-5/14/08: $96,358 (McClintock outraised Brown 7:1)
Raised overall: $1,034,190

1) It has taken Brown 2 Years to raise what McClintock raised in 10 weeks – notice how the Bee and others have stopped comparing McClintock’s to Brown’s fundraising?

2) Ose’s check yesterday of $475K (correcting my post yesterday of $500K) is still more than the entire amount of money from all real-live contruibutors.

3) Is the DCCC taking notes? Where were they?

4) What has Doug Ose gotten for all his money? 24 points!? That’s over $100K per point!

Unbelievable

BANZAI - Ose Dumps in Another 475k!

Doug Ose is going down – and he is intent on taking Tom McClintock, Ted Terbolizard and Suzanne Jones down with him. Doug Ose has to have seen the same polling data that the McClintock camp has.

BTW – check out www.terbocongress.org, it is an entertaining site and Terbo has some TV ads linked there. Unlike Ose, all of his ads are positive and creative.

Doug Ose has dug deep once again, $500,000 more was reported to the other candidates last night.

One can only draw the conclusion that Ose is

A) Trying to narrow his margin of defeat

B) Gone on a Kamikaze mission to do as much damage to McClintock as possible. (see also the latest barrage of Military attacks which play right into Colonel Yo-Yo’s hands)

C) He is believing different polling data than McClintock has

D) He is playing fast and loose with the millionaire amendment rules and reporting the money after it has been spent

E) All of the Above

I pick E – BANZAI!

For those of you scoring at home – $2.05 million of Ose’s own money.

More Issues Plague Ose - Cloning, Stem Cells, Taxpayer Funded Abortion

Conclusion of Earlier Post:

In the effort to punch any hole they can in Tom's Armor - Ose supporters attempted to suggest that McClintock supports Human Cloning. Meanwhile - Charlie Brown is getting a free pass. If you think Charlie Brown will have any better a record on the Life issue - think again. Charlie Brown is and will be beholden to Nancy Pelosi if he wins.

What has been established is that Tom McClintock was endorsed by the Eagle Forum, the National Right to Life and the California Republican Assembly. (the CRA) These three endorsements represent three organizations that rarely, if ever endorse someone who is soft on the life issue.

Ose, however helped pave the way for the California Supreme Court Legalizing Gay Marriage. (HR 3313, Roll Call #410, July 2004 - Marriage Protection Act - Voted No.)

Ose, also helped pave the way for destroying human life in the name of science - we are not talking cloning, but rather taking conceived embryos and "harvesting" the cells for research. This is called embryonic stem-cell research.

HR 4682, 108th Congress - Co-Sponsored a bill to provide for Embryonic Stem Cell Research. California's stem cell proposition that passed was modeled after this creation out of the mind of Doug Ose.

Destroying embryos is a waste of tax dollars in the name of Abortion. Embryonic stem cell research has produced no significant breakthrough. Adult stem cells, which do not require killing a life to get, have yielded many breakthroughs.

Ose, once again placed his social agenda ahead of science and the taxpayers. (Just like he did when he voted against oil drilling four separate times in four separate areas of the US - if you think Charlie Brown is going to vote to drill ANWR... look at his Prius.)

Ose also voted to use tax dollars to pay for abortions:

By voting to repeal prohibition against Military medical facilities performing abortions - June 1999, May 2000, May 2003, May 2004

By voting to to repeal prohibition of abortion coverage in federal employee health plans - July 1999, July 2000

Are you starting to read that Ose attacks along these lines are absurd? If you think Charlie Brown will vote any differently, you will have another thing coming. When Pelosi and the Democrat Base start breathing down his neck - he will have no "choice".

Now the Coup d'Etat -

HR 2505, Roll Call #304, July 2001 - Human Cloning Ban, Ose voted No.

Just to make sure, Ose had a second chance - a clone of the Human Cloning ban re-appeared... HR 534, Roll Call #39, Feb 2003 - Ose Voted No.

Once again, we have a case of the facts dooming Ose.

People care about $4 a gallon gas - Ose voted against Drilling

The CA Supreme Court is trying to force Gay Marriage on us - Ose Voted against the Defense of Marriage Amendment

Ose wasted our tax dollars on bunk science and voted to use our tax dollars to pay for abortions for federal employees and soldiers.

Now- do you understand why Ose spent $1.8 Million on Per Diem attacks against McClintock? Ose can not discuss the issues - because his record says, "I am a Liberal".

Meantime - Ose has gone on Tilt, shifting to fratricidal attacks against McClintock. It seems that Ose is content to do damage now that polls show him in a distant second, thereby assisting Charlie Brown in the fall.

The Per Diem Obsession

Doug Ose / MTA’s obsession with Per Diem

Part two of: Doug Ose’s 10 Year History of Censure and Hostility toward Central Committees.

Did you know why Doug Ose got censured by so many Central Committees and Republican Organizations? His consultant, McNerney-Temple is obsessed with using legislative Per Diem as a basis to attack Conservatives.

Problem Number one - It is OK for Ose to take his per-diem in Congress because he is not a Conservative. This is what McNerney Temple (MTA) is saying by omission.

Big Problem Number One – Ose attacked Barbara Alby for NOT TAKING PER-DIEM in 1998. He ran a coordinated radio / mail campaign depicting Alby in Hawaii. His evidence that Alby was derelicting her duty were blank roll books in the state legislature.

Alby refused to sign roll so that she would not get paid per diem. Ose’s attack against Barbara Alby was so despicable that two Republican Central Committees took the unheard of action of publicly chastising Ose over his campaign ethics.

Ten Years later, McClintock is getting attacked for taking per diem. I suppose if McClintock was not taking his per diem, we’d see ads of a man in a Scottish Kilt in Disneyland with his family while the rest of the legislature was working. Does that sound far-fetched?

Given the fact that Doug Ose is now scraping the bottom of the barrel, pulling out all the stops in order to damage McClintock as much as he can – anything is possible. Make no doubt, McClintock is crushing Doug Ose in polling taken recently, yet Ose continues his barrage.

As I have written several times over the last few days – Tom Cole and the NRCC are spectators once again while establishment types are attempting fratricide to prevent the new blood that can bring the GOP back from the brink. (The MainStreet Vision for the GOP – Conservatives Go Home)

Big Problem Number Two – Jim Brulte, Bruce McPherson, Dean Andal, Jim Battin, Tom Harman, Rod Pacheco, Gary Miller and Charlene Zettel all retained the services of MTA. I will lay odds that every last one of them took Per Diem while serving in the State Legislature. (Battin and Harman are still sitting Senators)

McNerney Temple needs to drop their obsession with the 4th CD race and get back to Dean Andal. They have let Andal swing while trying to slay the great Conservative Dragon.

Big Problem Number Three - The Per Diem arrow has only gained a spirited and unified Republican base – against Doug Ose.

All this, and no one has asked Doug Ose about his per diem while in Congress. Why?

Per Diem is a non-issue to the voters, but it has allowed us to see a window into the soul of the Doug Ose campaign.

Like the National Republicans that keep losing seats, while wondering why – I will defer to a comment by my friend Lee Reed:

(To) John (Stoos):

When the political debate focuses on solutions, it is in a positive iterative loop. Some "solutions" will be winnowed out for one good reason or another. You mention keeping contract protections is a good example. It will survive the iterative process and be a necessary condition to the ultimate solution. Half-baked conditions will drop out.

Dog whistle politics...too liberal...too whatever...is the lazy and ineffectual road to good governance...

“Dog whistle politics” – Per Diem attacks.

“When the political debate focuses on solutions” – Doug Ose loses, because his values are out of touch with the Republican mainstream.

“Some “Solutions” will be winnowed out for one good reason or another.” – Doug Ose is going to be rejected by the voters on June 3rd. It is time for him to suspend his campaign.

Don’t worry Charlie Brown, you’re next on the “winnowing” list – even Ose’s assistance won’t be able to help your campaign. Tom McClintock is not John Doolittle.

Doug Ose's 10 Year History of Censure and Hostility Twoard GOP Central Committees

Some have complained that the Modoc and Placer Central Committee endorsing Republican Tom McClintock over "Republican" Doug Ose is divisive.

I would contend that such an endorsement is with considerable merit.

Ose started running afoul of Central Committees 10 years ago.

*1998 CENSURE*

In 1998, Doug Ose was Censured by the Glenn County Republican Central Committee and the Yolo County Republican Central Committee over vicious attacks against then-Assemblymember Barbara Alby.

On April 30, 1998 the Glenn County Republican Central Committee issued their resolution and were followed by Yolo County on May 11, 1998. The Local media covered the Censure on May 16, 1998 in the Woodland Daily Democrat.

The Yolo County Republican Assembly added their resolution on April 30, 1998 as well. This was a different Yolo CRA than the current iteration that exists today. (The Yolo CRA was defunct in 2004, and re-chartered in 2007)

*GUTTING CENTRAL COMMITTEES*

After winning his seat in Congress - aided and abetted by Democrat Vic Fazio, Doug Ose began a process of installing his allies on local Central Committees. The results have played themselves out in Sacramento's GOP Committee, where fund-raising has all but ceased and registrations have bled-out to the point that Lungren's Congressional District is only now +5%.

One thing was certain - the Ose allies on that committee made sure that almost anyone connected with the Sacramento CRA chapter were consciously held out of leadership. With an alienated Conservative base, the results were self-evident.

*ATTACKING PLACER IN 2002*

The Ose-MainStreet Partnership vision found its' way to Placer County 6 years ago. They recruited a complete slate of Central Committee candidates specifically to back up Bill Kirby who was running against John Doolittle in the primary. The Placer County Republican Congress was the front club and Doug Ose was their primary supporter, booster and fundraiser for their effort.

In 2002, Doolittle was at the height of his power. Abramoff was still getting Ose and Doolittle campaign cash.

In the ensuing six years, Doolittle fell hard to the point of having the NRCC run drill after drill against him to finally get him to retire.

*PREPARING TO RUN FOR CONGRESS*

Doug Ose was angling for a return to Congress as early as Winter of 2007. Ose, as it turns out, had made several trips to DC in 2007. These were likely to renew acquaintances and to lobby for farm subsidy money... but people on the Auburn Dam Council and Capitol types had warned this blogger in late 2007 that Ose was making noise.

So, five years after supporting an effort to oust Doolittle - Ose was angling for his seat in Congress.

*2008 RETURN TO CENSURE OVER KAMIKAZE CAMPAIGN*

Recently, the Butte County Central Committee Censured Ose over his vicious attacks against McClintock. This means the latest chapter in Doug Ose's anti-Republican history.

Again - Ose is being called on the carpet for his attacks against another Republican... This time, it is Tom McClintock.

What is different here is that Ose is so far behind in the polls, he can not possibly win. (Please Quote me) Ose has decided that he is going to go down and take McClintock with him.

Ose has spent more of his own money launching a Kamikaze attack against Tom McClintock. Ose has decided to invest this latest cash infusion in ads designed to dovetail with Charlie Brown's impending strategy to take the seat for Ose's fellow Democrats in November.

No Wonder why Ose has been getting Censured for 10 years by the Republican base. He is the embodiment of what many of my CRA friends mean when they say, _"Most Moderate activists see Conservatives, not Democrats as the enemy."_ The CRA, not any other group is most closely aligned with the Republican base.

How Ose's behavior is going to reflect on Tom Cole, the NRCC Chairman who sat by while Liberal Republican Millionaires destroyed Conservative Opponents costing the GOP two seats in Congress in LA and MS, remains to be seen.

The Butte County Censure resolution and others that will follow it are notice to the Beltway crowd that CA-04 is not like other districts... we are not going to lay down while the MainStreet Partnership engages in fratricide just to prevent a Conservative from winning.

Slime is nothing new to Team Horne - look at 2004 for example

I have a major problem with bald-faced lies in campaign mailers and advertisements.

Why couldn't Horne attack Logue for being bought by developers - why get people who had been compensated fairly after levees were moved to accommodate their orchards to lend themselves to a fallacious attack?

Is it because Horne has nothing else to go on? What's next - another David Reade concoction of a fake newspaper like he did to Rico Oller several years ago to make unfounded allegations? The Ose people jumped on that stuff and their anon comment squad were calling Rico a wife-beater in 2008, some 8 years later. (Ose also used that crap in 2004 when he sent a mailer attacking Oller's marriage on behalf of fellow Moderate Dan Lungren)

Class.

Horne has aligned herself with some people whose MO is brass-knuckled attacks just like Ose.

Take a look at October 2004:

From the Red Bluff Daily News 10/28/2004:

(The excerpt was found on a blog - the actual article requires an archive search to find)

_"The final in a series of three candidates nights drew about 120 people to the Red Bluff Elks Lodge on Wednesday night... Tehama County Supervisor Barbara McIver is running for the Second District Assembly seat against Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa. McIver noted her opponent's absence and responded to a recent LaMalfa advertisement allegedly connecting her to porn king and casino owner Larry Flynt. 'It's almost embarrassing to have to respond to this. It's absolutely categorically untrue,' said McIver. 'I can't believe that I have to stand up here and say I did not take money from Larry Flynt.'"_

Damn it anyway, Doug! You didn't need to tie your lame Democrat opponent to Larry Flynt! She is active in her community, and while wrong for being a Democrat, did not deserve that crap!

The Chico News and Review chimed in: (Do not miss the fact that the CNR is decidedly biased against anything Republican, but their opinion holds merit... because Immoral action to yield a just result is still immoral)

"Dated 12/30/2004"

*When she's down, smack her*

There was never much chance that Democrat Barbara McIver would defeat Doug LaMalfa in the Nov. 2 race for the state Assembly in District 2, which is heavily Republican. But that didn't stop LaMalfa's campaign manager (and chief of staff), David Reade, from running a last-minute TV hit piece that marked a new low, even by Reade's questionable standards.

The advertisement in question, which tried to say that McIver was getting support from "porn king" Larry Flynt, he of Hustler fame, was a tissue of deceits based only on the fact that Flynt had bought some anti-LaMalfa ads in retaliation for a LaMalfa vote against Flynt's Southern California gambling interests.

The long-married McIver, who has four children and is a deacon in her church, hadn't received a penny from Flynt and had never met the man. LaMalfa won handily.

_What was Reade thinking? If you figure it out let us know._

Four Years Later - we are all still waiting for an answer.
